Originally a side task for the blockbuster animated film Geng: The Adventure Starts off, Upin & Ipin was released on TV9 on 13 Sept 2007 as a six-episode Ramadan/Eid special, to instruct children the significance of the Islamic holy month. By 2014, the series has reached its eighth season, including another Ramadan speci season in 2008, and, season three onwards, the year-long, more basic themed Upinipin and Friends, the series' international debut via the Disney Route Asia, with an increase of concentrating on showing the lives of this Twins with their friends on the normal days.
