Originally a side job for the blockbuster animated film Geng: The Adventure Starts off, Upin & Ipin was introduced on TV9 on 13 Sept 2007 as a six-episode Ramadan/Eid special, to instruct children the importance of the Islamic holy month. By 2014, the series has reached its eighth season, including another Ramadan speci season in 2008, and, season three onwards, the year-long, more standard themed Upinipin and Friends, the series' international debut via the Disney Channel Asia, with an increase of concentrating on revealing the lives with the Twins using their friends on the standard days.
