Formerly a side task for the blockbuster cartoon film Geng: The Adventure Gets started, Upin & Ipin was released on TV9 on 13 Sept 2007 as a six-episode Ramadan/Eid special, to teach children the significance of the Islamic holy month. As of 2014, the series has already reached its eighth season, including another Ramadan speci season in 2008, and, season three onwards, the year-long, more basic themed Upinipin and Friends, the series' international debut via the Disney Channel Asia, with an increase of concentrating on revealing the lives of The Twins with the friends on the standard days.
